1. R’S SONG VIDEO OF THE DAY: GABRIEL BRUCE//PERFECT WEATHER

Here’s the video. It is amazing. (Spoilers: man with blood on pissing about on a cliff top.)

I’m a sucker for a bit of brass, and ‘Perfect Weather’ delivers it.

I think Gabriel Bruce is definitely one to look out for, ‘Perfect Weather’ is just scraping the ‘overambitious preacher’ barriers, with Bruce’s Cave/Cohen-esque baritone cutting into the song. Also he has sweet dance moves, so 5 sparkly stars all round.

  2. R’S SONG OF THE DAY: DROP OUT VENUS//ELASTIC TEEN RENT

I am very excited. ‘Elastic Teen Rent' is dynamic, raw-by-way-of-blues and powerful. Basically, it's ace and has some rather NSFW language in it. The video is also great and you can see it here.

  3. R’S SONG OF THE DAY: SHELTER//TEMPLES

A nice little nugget of 60’s-style straight-up psychedelic fun times, with ‘Solitude is Bliss’ vibes.

  4. WEEKLY ROUND UP…

    HELLO.

Here’s some new songs to lighten your day.

    1) PEACE//BLOODSHAKE (click through to listen, obv)

Who remembers when BBlood was just a demo? Three people, yeah? Well now it’s all grown up, with the title of ‘Hottest Track in the World’ in its arms. BLOODSHAKE stays close to its demo’s roots, a fresh indie-slacker sound with chirping guitars and drums and a breakdown and all dat stuff we love.

    2) SWIM DEEP//HONEY

B-town babes Swim Deep offer up some new Summery sounds. It’s a pit more shiny and polished and chill than ‘King City’, but still coated with shimmery pop. (“OO OO BABY.”)

    3) PEERS//NIGHTDRIVING

I’ve only just heard this, so I dunno how old it actually is but I DON’T CARE. This is a guitar-heavy ball of that nostalgic sound. You know the one I mean. ‘Nightdriving’  features dramatic vocals, great build-ups and an overall ‘YEAH LIFE IS GOOD’ vibe.

  5. I’ve decided to do a round up of things I’ve enjoyed this week:

    Starting with GuMM

LIONHEART is their new single, and is filled TO THE BRIM of shoegazing Summer-y ness, swirling soundscape and melodic “GARAGE/GAZE.” Absolutely lovely stuff.

My main man, Willy Moon, also has a new song out. REJOICE. RAILROAD TRACK is an epic of a stomping Western song, complete with SPOOKY BELLS, rain sound effects and whistling.

PASSION PIT'S Gossamer has been making my brain happy since its release, and CONSTANT CONVERSATIONS, although not really breaking any new ground since ‘Manners’, is still a pretty chill song. (I’m trying so hard not to break out into saying “CHILL SUMMER VIBES” every time I write about something.)

    (sweet .gif from asiswas)

SPLASHH, like a little baby Wavves, have been making me want to run about in a field wearing a tie-dye t-shirt for the past few weeks. The energy and fuzzed out vocals/guitars/overall music of NEED IT is electric, and downright FUN.

    - That is my weekly round up. Have a BLAST *thumbs up*

  6. GAGGLE STREAM//FROM THE MOUTH OF THE CAVE

Gaggle’s new album is streaming, if you head on over the Guardian and give it a listen. If you like the idea of a (about) 34-strong all-female choir combined with a feminist mindset (AND WHO DOESN’T), then my standout tracks are Crows and Army of Birds. LOVELY STUFF/A BIT SCARY WALL OF NOISE BUT OVERALL STILL VERY GOOD.

  7. R’s new favourite thing in the world is EUGENE MCGUINESS covering LANA DEL REY.

    Reasons to listen:

    • WHISTLING
    • His Arctic Monkeys/Miles Kane-style vocals fit the song perfectly, yet giving it a more abrupt and urgent tone
    • I like it more than the original
    • I mean what
    • I do, though.

  8. FILTHY BOY//NAUGHTY CORNER

Filthy Boy live up to their name in this new fetish-inspired video. With lyrics that would make the most uptight gentleman stop and go ‘…oh my’ Filthy Boy really are carving out a black & white, swankily shaped gap in new music. SPLENDID.

'Naughty Corner' should be out July 9th.

  9. Purity Ring's first video from their album Shrines (out July 24th): “Belispeak

  10. Little Comets’ new video for Jennifer!

  11. LA SHARK//MR MODERN MAN  (out 9th July)

Less choppy and more bass-heavy than previous offerings, such as Magazine Cover, La Sharks ‘Mr Modern Man’ was uploaded to Soundcloud EIGHT MINUTES AGO. It’s more summery (some kind of obsession of mine, I think. Love the sun, init) and laid back. DECENT, have a listen.

  12. R’s song of the day: SAVAGES//HUSBANDS
    (click  to listen on Soundcloud)

Husbands' is rumbling, distorted post-punk that draws comparison to The Birthday Party and even the Slits. It's aggressive & it's violent, which is just grand. Should be out on May 28th/early June. (I am really rather excited.)

    (here’s a live video too)

  13. ALT-J (Δ) //AN AWESOME WAVE

'An Awesome Wave' is unpredictable. It transcends all comparison to any other album out right now, "Tessellate" is introduced by dramatic pianos and a smattering of the stuttering drums that feature throughout many of the songs on this album. 'Breezeblocks' is exciting (the DRUMS. YES.) and ‘Dissolve Me’ is wonderfully Summery, filled with fresh folk harmonies.

The album itself is dotted with interludes, and while these have the potential to be annoying breaks in the album, it actually glues the record together, blurring it into something electrifying.

Download: all of it. Just DO IT PLEASE. IT’S SO GOOD.

"Relief washes over me in an awesome wave."- Patrick Bateman

  14. R’S SONG(S) OF THE DAY

    ESSER IS BACK.

Rockfeedback featured the video for his new song, ‘Emnity’. It’s very fashionable, and he seems to have ditched the previous pop style offerings for a more of a Horrors-esque synthy Krautrock sound. Welcome back.

Another one I HAD to add in is the new single from Gaggle. There’s nothing I like more than an innovative all-female choir. ‘Army of Birds' is beyond comparison, it's dark, it's bassy, it's heavy, it's EXCELLENT. I LOVE GAGGLE.

  15. It’s been one year since Smother came out and it’s STILL as fresh & enrapturing.
