1. R’S SONG VIDEO OF THE DAY: GABRIEL BRUCE//PERFECT WEATHER

Here’s the video. It is amazing. (Spoilers: man with blood on pissing about on a cliff top.)

I’m a sucker for a bit of brass, and ‘Perfect Weather’ delivers it.

I think Gabriel Bruce is definitely one to look out for, ‘Perfect Weather’ is just scraping the ‘overambitious preacher’ barriers, with Bruce’s Cave/Cohen-esque baritone cutting into the song. Also he has sweet dance moves, so 5 sparkly stars all round.

  2. R’S SONG OF THE DAY: DROP OUT VENUS//ELASTIC TEEN RENT

I am very excited. ‘Elastic Teen Rent' is dynamic, raw-by-way-of-blues and powerful. Basically, it's ace and has some rather NSFW language in it. The video is also great and you can see it here.

  3. R’S SONG OF THE DAY: SHELTER//TEMPLES

A nice little nugget of 60’s-style straight-up psychedelic fun times, with ‘Solitude is Bliss’ vibes.

  4. THE JOY FORMIDABLE//CHOLLA (with talking from Huw Stephens, fab)

The second offering from new album ‘Wolf’s Law’ showcases a heavier version of TJF’s now-trademark chainsaw-guitars and dreamy vocals. It’s majestic, epic (is that word still allowed to describe stuff?) and shows that Wolf’s Law will be an album filled with dramatic crescendos and contrasts.

  5. PEACE // CALIFORNIA DAZE

For fans of Tribes’ slower stuff, and the Summery vibes coming from B-town this year, PEACE change direction from Follow Baby into a more classical sound. Its delicate introduction sounds like a hazy 90’s summer, that then builds up to something PHENOMENAL. It might be a bit Oasis-y/Beatles-y, but when has that ever been a bad thing?

  6. NEW VIDEO: THE VACCINES//TEENAGE ICON

(these ladies and gentlemen are SO.COOL.) (also: If You Wanna as elevator music.)

  7. R’s song of the day: ANGELS // The XX

THE XX HAVE NEW STUFF OUT EXCUSE ME WHILE I POOP. Though ‘Angels’ doesn’t bring anything new to the XX’s sound, and is very similar to their last album, it still carries on with their trademark intimate sound (a good thing). DON’T FIX WHAT’S NOT BROKEN RITE?

  8. R’s Song Of The Day: RELIEF // COASTAL CITIES

From stumbling upon a friend’s ‘This is My Jam’ I came across Coastal Cities. ‘Relief’ is choppy & exciting, yet comes across as slightly Foals-y. I’m sure they’ve heard that a hundred times before though, so I’ll leave them alone and just say that this is pretty jam hot.

  9. Deap Vally - Baby I Call Hell

Crunchy guitars & all-girl soul with a riot-grrl vibe. The kinda people I wanna be.

  10. Alt-J’s new video for ‘Tessellate’, released on 16th July.

    I dunno man. I dunno.

  11. Passion Pit’s new single: Take A Walk

  12. New video from The Vaccines!

The video for No Hope gives me a bit of a Morrissey vibe (the flowers…the bike…the black & white), and this started off as a shaky new direction for the Vaccines. It’s no Wreckin’ Bar…but it definitely has potential.

  13. FILTHY BOY//NAUGHTY CORNER

Filthy Boy live up to their name in this new fetish-inspired video. With lyrics that would make the most uptight gentleman stop and go ‘…oh my’ Filthy Boy really are carving out a black & white, swankily shaped gap in new music. SPLENDID.

'Naughty Corner' should be out July 9th.

  14. Purity Ring's first video from their album Shrines (out July 24th): “Belispeak

  15. Little Comets’ new video for Jennifer!
